I also think I'm going to start using "gum nuts" (eucalyptus pods) as a swear word because I just like the way it sounds.
We were in Melborne ast night at the Holiday Inn and it felt like we were at a 12 star hotel compared to the places we've been staying.
This is kind of gross but I'm going to tell it anyway: I've been good about showering pretty much daily while here, especialy since we've been in the fiedl for long days, but I took a bath at the Holiday Inn last night and (remember the red soil I told you about?) the bath water immediately turned muddy red. I think its going to take awhile to get rid of the iron oxide that is in my pores...
Tonight we are in a very small town called Sea Lake about 4 hours north of Melbourne. The hotel has shared bathrooms and not enough rooms for all of us so we are having to double up. The boys, I have found are very spoiled from staying in nice hotels in the states and can't stop complaining about the accomadations. I just think its amusing because its kind of like I'm staying in a college dorm. I have stayed at friend's homes that are worse than this, so whatever, its a bed right? And the really nice thing about being the only single female in the group is that I don't have to share :)
The only problem is that the restaurant is closed tonight b/c the cook went home with a migraine. It is the ONLY place to eat in town that is open for dinner. Well except for the take away across the street where I could get fish and chips, but they look pretty nasty and greasy..thank god I brought my protein shakes with me!
Oh! on the drive back to Perth yesterday we FINALLY saw some kangaroos. I will post a picture soon. So much for my haiku:
An Australian myth?
The only roos that I've seen
Are smushed by the road
